Recently there was an exhibition of works by Van Gogh and a recent Canadian Chinese Matthew Wong in our art museum (Zurich).
He was self-taught, “looked up” to Van Gogh, suffered from severe depression and killed himself at 35 (Van Gogh at 37). The Canadian’s works are painted with very thick strokes of oil and therefore shine a lot. I had to take pictures of them crookedly. And it still seems that he makes white stripes where they are not actually in the painting – this is the shine on the dark paint from the thickness of the oil.
These terrible frames like coffins on Van Gogh’s paintings, they kill them! WITHOUT them (I looked through my folded palms) – his paintings are like WINDOWS there! I felt the hot air smelling of herbs…

By dearest V. van Gogh.
In general all these heavy centuries old kitsch frames swallow paintings and I have no idea HOW THESE “art specialists” do not see it?!?!?!
